ITv2 protocol improvements

Overview

PowerManage 5.0 improves how Neo 5 panels communicate with the server using the ITv2 protocol. This update expands the operations supported over ITv2, improves reliability for common service workflows, and adds support for stronger ITv2 session encryption.

The improvements focus on:

  • More functionality and stability over ITv2, with less reliance on older or alternate communication flows.
  • Stronger protection for ITv2 sessions through Type 3 encryption support.
note

These improvements apply to Neo 5 panels that communicate with PowerManage using the ITv2 protocol.

What's changed

More operations are supported over ITv2

The ITv2 communication flow has been enhanced to support more operations directly over ITv2 and reduce fallback behavior in common workflows.

User-visible improvements include:

  • More reliable firmware and software upgrades, including improved behavior for upgrades over cellular connections.
  • Improved cellular connectivity stability, so communication interruptions are less likely to require manual action from the panel side.
  • Improved behavior when two standalone servers are configured for a panel, reducing discovery loop scenarios.
  • Panel log retrieval support over ITv2, including timestamp support where applicable.
  • PowerG RSSI and placement-related queries over ITv2.
  • RSM diagnostics over ITv2, including battery and related diagnostic data.
  • Real-time PGM output status reporting over ITv2.

ITv2 Type 3 encryption is now supported

ITv2 sessions can now use Type 3 encryption to improve protection of transmitted data.

info

Type 3 encryption improves ITv2 session protection when it is supported and used by the session.

Who is affected

This update affects:

  • Dealers, operators, and installers who manage Neo 5 panels through PowerManage.
  • Neo 5 panels that communicate with PowerManage using the ITv2 protocol.
  • Users who perform firmware or software upgrades, especially over cellular connections.
  • Users who retrieve panel logs, run diagnostics, check PowerG placement or RSSI, or monitor PGM output status.

Benefits

The ITv2 protocol improvements provide the following benefits:

  • More reliable firmware and software upgrade flows.
  • Better stability for cellular communication.
  • Reduced need for fallback communication paths for supported operations.
  • Improved panel discovery behavior in standalone server configurations.
  • Easier access to panel logs, diagnostics, PowerG placement data, and PGM status through ITv2.
  • Stronger session security when Type 3 encryption is used.

What you need to do

Typical use

In most cases, no action is required. Existing workflows continue to work and use the improved ITv2 path when supported.

You should see improved reliability when you:

  • Start and monitor firmware or software upgrades, including upgrades over cellular.
  • Retrieve panel logs.
  • Run PowerG placement or RSSI checks.
  • Run RSM diagnostics.
  • Monitor PGM output status changes in real time.
tip

Continue using the same workflows. PowerManage uses the improved ITv2 path automatically when the panel and operation support it.

Operational checks

If an operation does not behave as expected:

  • Verify that the panel is a Neo 5 panel.
  • Verify that the panel is communicating with PowerManage over ITv2.
  • Retry the operation using the existing workflow.
  • If the issue continues, follow your standard troubleshooting or escalation process.

Behavior details

When supported, PowerManage uses the improved ITv2 communication path for relevant Neo 5 operations. This reduces dependency on older or alternate flows for operations that are now supported directly over ITv2.

The improved ITv2 behavior applies to:

  • Firmware and software upgrade communication.
  • Cellular communication stability during supported workflows.
  • Discovery behavior when two standalone servers are configured for the panel.
  • Panel log retrieval, including timestamp support where applicable.
  • PowerG RSSI and placement-related queries.
  • RSM diagnostic data retrieval.
  • Real-time PGM output status reporting.
  • ITv2 sessions that use Type 3 encryption.

Important notes and limitations

warning
  • The improved behavior applies to Neo 5 panels using the ITv2 protocol.
  • Existing workflows do not require new user steps in most cases.
  • Type 3 encryption improves ITv2 session protection when supported and used by the session.
  • Some data, such as log timestamps, is available where applicable.
  • Operations that are not supported over ITv2 may continue to use existing behavior.
